WORK  EXPERIENCE
President, Williams Telecommunications Company. The 4000-mile fiber optic network was recognized as
the outstanding Engineering Achievements" of 1986 by the National Society of Professional
Engineers. The company has also been honored for its restoration of the statue of Liberty. In June
of 1987 WTC merged with LDX and is now called Williams Telecommunications Group. Wilkens was the
1988 chairman of the National Telecommunication Network, which is made up of seven regional fiber
optic companies. He completed the implementation of a national fiber optic system with the
acquisitions of Lighnet and RCI fiber networks.

WilTel is now a part of MCI WorldCom.
